When the 3D cinema trend started to settle down, the movie business pays attention to the higher technology – 5D cinema technology. 5D technology is more amazing when it is the summarization of 3D and 4D cinema’s strength.

Blossoming the new kind of cinema

According to the survey, there are many 5D cinemas in Ho Chi Minh City currently, especially at tourist area and some supermarkets such as Co.op Mart, Big C … Not only in Ho Chi Minh City, according to a 5D cinema installing firm in Hanoi, but only in Hanoi City there is one 5D cinema for each 1 to 5 meter in distance. This movement even spreads to the West and attracts a lot of clients.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Toan – the owner of a 5D cinema in Soc Trang – said that realizing 5D movement developed significantly, he decided to invest in a 5D movie theater. This new cinema is the result of upgrading his old 3D cinema to 5D cinema with the cost of 640 million VND. In detail, this new system concludes up to 250 inch screen, motion chair system, real effects such as fire spraying, lightning, rain, snow, smoke,… and 15 odors in total depending on scenes on movie. At present, Toan’s movie theater attracts over 30 viewers per one day, especially in the pass Tet holiday, it attracted several hundred of audiences.

And according to Ms. Nhan – staff of 5D cinema at Co.op Mart Supermarket, Phan Van Tri (Go Vap) – this kind of movie attracts quite a large amount of clients, especially family and the most at weekend. Moreover, the most visitors are the youth. Due to the sort-time film, only about 5 to 10 minutes, so many young man come to watch 2 to 3 films per each times and they love this so much.

It is still not standard 5D cinema yet

Although having so many effects, Movie theaters now, according to some technology connoisseurs, are not the standard 5D cinema yet. Even, some are still normal 4D cinemas but advertising 5D cinemas. Because real 5D cinema brings not only the vibrating feeling but also the odor feeling in many scenes on films to customers.

Mr. Thien Phu, technical manager at Sai Gon Digital Audio Company, which specializes in 5D cinema, said that: the cost of investment in full 06 seats 5D cinema except for available accommodation is from 400 to 600 million VND. Actually in Vietnam, investors just upgrade from 3D cinema to 5D cinema or invest in lack of technological feature systems.

And according to Mr.Vu Quang Hai – the director of Advanced Technology and International Business Company, the odor is the most important feature in 5D cinema, but the most difficult problem is technology. Because the speed of film is so fast, the odor must change constantly. And that the reason why it is necessary to have a good processing system that helps both spraying and removing odor at the same time. The cost of odor chemical substance is so expensive, especially the European products that can be up to several hundred million VND for each time spraying. Now in Vietnam, the Chinese odor chemical substance that costs several tens of millions and has about 15 odors is mostly used, but limited because of lack of odor.

Mr. Hai also said that 5D films is quite rare, firms have to convert, add more effects from 3D, 4D to 5D cinema. But, this technology is so complicated and the quality is just moderate quality in compared with real professional 5D cinema.

Enjoy 5D feeling

When enjoying 5D cinema, not only can the audience feel the floating image from three-dimensional, but they can also experience the real feeling like the scenes on films. The clients can enjoy movie in the environment with the strong impact of mechanic system from chair like stuffing, compression, pushing, beating, … following situations in the movie. In addition to that, there are many different effects such as fire, smoke, snow,…even the food smell on films.
